For six years Comfort Kitchen has been serving three-course meals each Wednesday night to those who need a meal.
Comfort Kitchen is run by 20 volunteers who spend their Wednesday preparing and cooking soups, mains and desserts for 160 people.
Together they have made over 40,000 meals that have fed the Fraser Coasts hungry. Comfort Kitchen provides wholesome meals such as warm soups, lasagne, corn beef, vegetables and ice-cream with fruit as well as a Christmas and Christmas in July meals to those in need, to bring them joy in the holiday seasons.
Anyone can come along on a Wednesday night and receive a meal, no questions asked as anyone may need a meal. Seventy per cent of people who need a meal are single senior pensioners.
Money made from the Community Centres café and catering goes towards running the Comfort Kitchen. Doors open at 4:30 pm on Wednesday night and they start serving at 5:00 pm. Comfort kitchen also provides take away to people for neighbours or friends that aren’t able to make it to the community centre, if they have enough for everyone that night.
